20" x 30" Ink and colored pencil
One of my favorite things to do is overlap patterns. This piece shows the flower of life on top of 512 spheres. To arrange the spheres I divided the piece into 64 parts radially to center the concentric rings of 32 spheres that diminish in size towards the center. I used the square root of 2 and a symmetrical double spiral that you find in plants to arrange each consecutive circle of spheres. All of there spheres were shaded with stipple (tiny dots), and I added highlights with colored pencil. The 6 sides of the flower of life coincide with the 32 radial spheres making every 16th sphere line up with every 3rd circle from the flower of life.
